28 Mar Week one in California is now complete
Week one in California is now complete. Every time I come here I strongly question why I live in the UK. Not only is it warm and sunny but I’m lucky enough to be in a beautiful place of the world too. I won’t continue rubbing it in any longer as I know snow in the UK is just about pushed everyone over the edge now, especially those needing to train outdoors.
For the past week I have been finding my feet with an 8 hour time zone difference and a lot of travel. The first five days I felt really slow and sluggish in training. Technically I was pretty sound but my body was just not moving. I seem to have recovered from that and the previous two days have gone really well for me. I have been throwing light hammers to get some speed into my legs. I am competing at the Stanford Invitational on Friday afternoon, which I am really looking forward to, and consequently this week I will be taking it pretty easy so that I’m fresh for competing.
Today is a rest day for me and I’m going into kindergarten with my previous coach Robert Weir. He is in town as some of the athletes he coaches are also competing at Stanford. We are going to talk to them about ‘track and field’ and see if we can spot any future Olympians and try and find some British heritage they might have!
