08 Nov Quick Fire Questions – Nick Goolab
Former BUCS XC champion, Nick Goolab, takes on Quick Fire Questions just a few days after leading Belgrave Harriers to fifth place at the English National XC Relays in Mansfield.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO ATHLETICS?
I got into athletics through school. I did well in a bleep test and so was sent to a borough schools cross country race. I raced well so my local club, Ealing, Southall and Middlesex, signed me up.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?
My greatest non-athletic achievement was definitely getting my degree (First Class Masters in Maths from University of Birmingham). & I would say my greatest athletic achievement was getting my first GB vest (2008 Euro Junior XC Champs).
I don’t really have a favourite session – they’re all very hard! But I am proud of a session I did this summer. I did 2 sets of hard 400, 30s rest, hard 200, 10 mins between the sets. Times were 51.5, 27, 50.9, 28. I was proud of that because it showed I had speed.
WHO IS YOUR SPORTING HERO?
When I was younger I used to think Thierry Henry could do no wrong.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SPORT OTHER THAN ATHLETICS?
Football. If I could, I would play it all day long.
Favourite race… Mansfield (National XC Relays) last weekend was quite enjoyable. Although most races are too tough to enjoy!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FILM?
I watched 2 Guns recently with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg and that was very entertaining.
It’s been a while since I had a holiday. I went to France last year. I think I’m overdue a holiday actually.
WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ?
The last book I read was a Lionel Messi biography. Think it was imaginatively called Messi.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD AND HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO EAT IT?
I’m quite partial to some clotted cream fudge although I never eat it because I’m quite strict with my diet.
My bed after training.
IF YOU COULD GO ON A DATE WITH ANYONE WHO WOULD IT BE & WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I’d go on a date with Emily Blunt & take her to Haagen Dazs restaurant in London. Everyone loves a bit of ice cream!
IN 10 YEARS TIME…
I will have hopefully had one good track season!
