13 Nov Quick Fire Questions – Jake Wightman

European Junior 1500m champion and Loughborough University student, Jake Wightman, takes part in this week’s Quick Fire Questions.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO ATHLETICS?

Got into athletics because of my parents, who surrounded us in the sport. First started racing aged 8, so been at it a while.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?

My greatest achievement is winning European Juniors 1500, one of the only titles I’ve actually one.

FAVOURITE SESSION?

I love something quick, like 150s or 200s. Your legs do all the work and you don’t have to concentrate as much which I’m not great at.

WHO IS YOUR SPORTING HERO?

Seb Coe, a Loughborough lad with a kick which tore fields apart. A model racer!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SPORT OTHER THAN ATHLETICS?

My favourite other sport is football. Was still playing till the end of school, but now just a watcher and Chelsea fan. Can still get away with a sneaky kick about off season though.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FILM?

My favourite film is Forrest Gump. It’s so eventful and there’s a bit of running in there too.

IF YOU COULD VISIT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD WHERE WOULD IT BE & WHY?

I’d visit the casinos of Las Vegas. Would like to think I’d come back a big winner, but would probably end up homeless.

WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ?

It’s rare for me to actually finish a book. Last one I started was Pele’s autobiography.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD AND HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO EAT IT?

A Toby Carvery. We have it every Tuesday night at uni. Top refill after a hard session!

PET HATES?

I don’t like it when other runners don’t say hi back as you pass them on a run.

IF YOU COULD GO ON A DATE WITH ANYONE WHO WOULD IT BE?

I’d go on a date with Mila Kunis, and in the athletics world it would be Darya Klishina

IN 10 YEARS TIME…

In ten years time I will be travelling the world racing at my peak, if I get lucky. Hopefully having paid off my student loan and not relying on my parents to pay the plane fares.
