Is now the time for a dedicated NGB just for T&F ?
    .
Has England Athletics has turned into a ‘jack of All trades and a master at none ‘?
    .
I submit , that to be in with a chance (albeit small) of reversing the gradual decline in Track & Field athletics its time to have a NGB dedicated just to Track & Field……..leaving Road, Cross Country, Fell and the rest to others. And to stop the endless EA promote of ‘gentle exercise and mental health’ initiatives, and hand these back to the local authorities.

Are the current EA Board and employees so tied up/distracted by so much ‘off track & field’ work they cannot or do not focus enough of their 37 hour week to T&F ?

    It would be marginalised.

Hi Facts?….lets take for example England’s grand new initiative (quote) “The England Athletics Mental Health Ambassador programme which aims to establish a network of volunteer ambassadors in running clubs” .
I say that England Athletics should concentrate and do more to address the many issues clubs have with Track & Field….and stop interfering with the social and health issues within the community.

Most Local Authorities already employ many people in various depts. that cover and support people (eg) with mild mental health issues. Just one such group in each authority is called “the Social Prescribing Coordinator”. We already see many areas of health and exercise support being duplicated and we certain should not have England Athletics adding to this duplication of effort.

So MarkE…..do you think both the ECCA -English Cross Country Association and the ERRA English Road Running Association are marginalised ? Are they doing such a bad job they should be disbanded and let England Athletics take total control. I suggesting that Tract & Field needs and deserve a similar Association to ERRA and ECCA .

Road Running – narrow and specific
Cross Country – narrow and specific
…..both a variation of endurance running with similar or same participation group.
Track & Field – varied with 4 distinct disciplines Sprints, Middle Distance, throws and jumps.

You are comparing apples with oranges (so to speak).

    PIAA

The ERRA and ECCU are not governing bodies. They are competition providers for a small number of competitions. No different to the various leagues or the CAU.

I agree with PIAA. The strength of ECCA is that they only enforce rules competition, in competition.
    .
ARC are an Association of Running Clubs which allows its membership to use its collective number to organise benefits for themselves.
    .
England Athletics are just a series of contradictions. They really would like people to pay them the respect that they feel is due to a governing body. However athletes, coaches, officials and clubs are not crying out for people to govern them. All they want are rules of competition.
    .
All UKA and England Athletics want is a wage at the end of month. As soon as the wages are stopped UKA and England Athletics will disappear. The rules of competition will be renamed AAAs Rules, and as always, implemented by volunteers.
    .
No governance needed, so no governing body will be missed.

Not quite right on the ECCA Zac. ABAC looked at their policy of closing race entries 7 weeks before competition. In 2015 ECCA pocketed nearly £30,000 from no shows at the National CCC alone. ABAC proposed they either shortened the entry time or refunded clubs for no shows.
And how did they respond? They said they used the money to develop the sport by taking development teams abroad. So they are adopting a development(governing) role and the clubs are paying.
As usual ABAC highlighted this before anyone else.
